Glaze Color:

The pots are called alligator because the surface of the pot resembles the skin of an alligator. This is not a glaze effect, the outside surface of the clay is actually cracked.
First, a cylinder is made. Then a chemical solution is applied to the outside and allowed to dry. Then pressure is applied to the inside, pushing the pot out to form its shape. You must go slow as the pot could split! After bisque firing, the inside is glazed and a stain is applied to the outside to highlight the cracked effect.
Truly a wonderful example of the talented artists in our state and a unique one of a kind piece of hand made pottery.
